Kids represent an important demographic to marketers because they have their own purchasing power, they influence their parents' buying decisions.
Today's kids have more autonomy and decision-making power within the family than in previous generations, so it follows that kids are vocal about what they want their parents to buy.
Kids are treated as targets they represent a large group of consumers and at the moment. They deserve to be protected but what are the limits? who can set them? I believe there should be some sort of control among advertisers. The rules should be clear and equal to every single advertiser.
Ads in schools traspass the limits, I think that kids can be influenced by brands but schools should get ads that are related to what they are there for that is to educate. So there should be a public interest above money making targets. Kids should come out first no matter what. Kids should be seen as future workers and not as future consumers. They need things to use everyday but they dont need to buy clothes shoes videogames every week. If parents are not there to take care of the decisions that they make every day as consumers then the government should protect them. Kids can be influenced by ads and that can cause an effect on the food they eat, the lifestyle that they have and even on the way they behave. I would encourage parents to do something about it.
The risk is everywhere and the difference between my generation and the kids that were raised using a computer is internet.
The Internet is an extremely desirable medium for marketers wanting to target children: It's part of youth culture. This generation of young people is growing up with the Internet as a daily and routine part of their lives. Parents generally do not understand the extent to which kids are being marketed to online. Kids are often online alone, without parental supervision. Unlike broadcasting media, which have codes regarding advertising to kids, the Internet is unregulated.
The influence not only occurs with food we can also see it on clothing. Little girls are treated as women they are approached as such. Girls are encouraged to grow up as fast as possible the older they think they are the better consummers they will be.
Local governments should get involved in these kind of actions. I believe the Federal Government needs more money on sales tax and therefore they believe that the economic effect will cause some sort of damage compared to the risk that kids go through with this marketing techniques .

Limit video games
Evrything in excess is not good for our minds. Video games have been somehow linked to violence. If we think about video games they should play a role as a form of entertainment but for some kids it means a complete training.
there are a lot of recomendations to parents one example is the one given by
the American Academy of Pediatrics' recommendation that parents limit screen time to no more than two hours per day includes television, videos/DVDs, and video games. If your child currently plays several hours of video games each day, either through a video game console or handheld device, they suggest that you to put a plan in place to limit video games at home and replace that time with other activities. For example:
and parents should allow your child to play for a set number of minutes per day. For example, you might decide that twenty minutes per day is sufficient.
Another alternative is to set two days out of the week as "video game" days. You might choose one weekend day and one weekday and find that the numbers, over the course of the week, even out.
Bring handheld video games to social events only on special occasions. If the device accompanies every trip to a friend's house and each errand you run during the week, it's likely that your child is racking up quite a few hours of playing time.
When your children's friends gather at your house, limit the amount of time they play video games. After twenty-thirty minutes of taking turns playing, suggest that the children move on to something else.
Don't forget to include computer games when you're thinking about how much time your child spends on video games. Even the best educational games shouldn't be played continuously.
I believe that the role of parents are significant but I also think that the governments local ones should get involved with this situation and work on some sort of programme to control the amount of hours that kids spend playing.
Ourdoor activies help social interaction that is something that many kids that were part in violent acts throught the US presented as a characteristic.
In Argentina there hadnt been situations as the ones in US highscools that involved shootings and minors using guns. A recent case shocked a small town a kid who loved video games had to pass the limit of shooting virtual characters he needed to go beyond that and decided to take his dads gun and kill classmates in school.
small towns can be boring but teachers and parents need to work on limits and on understanding that it is not normal to spend 8 hours a day playing over an over a video game that involves violence.

the News
Official sources a lot of times are government institutions or agencies. When I watched CNN interview on Pakistan an Afghanistans situation I noticed that campbell brown's show on CNN combines the opinion of 4 people in different cities to talk and discuss some topic. This opportunity it was the war and the decision that President Obama nees to make, whether to commit or not thousands or US soldiers or not.
The shows presents the journalist as NO BIAS NO BULL that gives us viewers who know nothing about her some sense of respect but when we start watching we realize that objective news we realize that her show is not unbiased. Taliban fighters on US payroll for switching sides. We can even read the sources and realize that there is a paraghrah written and it doesnt even have the source or the journalists name it only says CNN. The paraghraph states "some experts on the region believeUS program to pay Taliban Taliban Fighters to quit the organization is buying temporary LOYALTY. She is being biased. She suggests that the US government will buy some people's loyalty. It never says who
Michael ware, Peter Burgain and a Michael C Senior editor are her guests on the shows. She interviews the three of them and try to show diversity but she is not reporting she is forming an opinion.
I felt that The news is being reported from a democratic point of view from a person that focuses of important issues that are priorities in the country to spend money on.
She focuses on the decisions that need to be made by the government with the money in stake. It is a delicate situation that three people are talking about.
The story is not out of content because the situation is realistic and a huge issue at the moment.
The most important message with the story is that there is no one solution and not a fast one and that there are other issues to consider that cause a direct effect on war in Irak.
The reporter quotes Hillary Clinton and she tries to ask questions to all her guests and be independnet as possible.

The majority of Internet memes are transmitted by teens and post-adolescents. This occurs because these two demographics like to message, and have a certain curiousity about memes. But today, the average age of meme-transmitters has expanded, as users in their thirties and forties discover the humor about forwarding memes to their friends.
Today velocity is the key to everything, memes travel much faster than simple speech. As Internet email forwards, instant messages, and Web page links, memes now travel instantly via the Internet. The effect that they cause on fashion trends is huge. Many designers are known for their own work and worked years for brands until they made it. Today thanks to memes an independent designer can fin success from posting in their own blog or by appearing on youtube.
Some examples of internet fashion memes are
1)
A Popular blog on wild Japanese street fashion, with a focus on Gothic Lolita Rococo Punk. Daily posts and photos, trend commentary, outfits and style profiles of Tokyo's craziest alternative designers and Visual Kei J-rock bands. By La Carmina, author of J-pop books Cute Yummy Time and Crazy Wacky Theme Restaurants. Thousands of women log in to learn new concepts, cooldhunters decide what is hot and what isnt and then the post is donne and the creation becomes a new concept that women associate with a picture. It is much faster than in the 80s or 90s.

2)
another example is http://www.thefablife.com/tag/internet-memes/ that is a blog that the must see photos show how things that occur with celebrities are spread out within minutes. Things occur and one minute later they are all over the internet. Memes help situations that would never appear on the news to spread all over the world within hours. They can cause a negative effect on someone not only celebrities but they can affect non famous people as well.

The Real City ?
As a regular viewer of Laguna Beach and then The Hills, I was quite interested in seeing what MTV had up with The City, a show that would feature New York City and all of the and all that can happen here. The series revolves around Lauren Conrad’s close fashion industry friend, Whitney Port. Anyone who has watched The Hills, knows that Whitney is the quiestest and least dramatic of the pack. Rarely does she have boy drama, fighting, or the crazy party life of her counterparts. So it’s hard to imagine how someone known only as being LC’s emotional dumpster and tag along friend would be able to carry her own show and/or make it interesting.
After watching the first 2 ep’s of The City, it’s quite clear, this spin-off is already on life support. Whitney has always seemed as someone who gets anything she wants in life without really struggling for it. Her switch from People’s Revolution to Diane Von Furstenberg was arranged by her old boss, and somehow miracously she can move 3,000 miles across the country and already have some close girl friends, a boyfriend, and a guy fighting with her boytoy for her attention. The boyfriend is a “musician” and I use the word loosely as we have not really seen him sing or play one note but are supposed to believe that he must be some sort of Australian Mozart since he has 5 o’ clock shadow and long hair.
Overall the major plot points of this new spin off are very weak. I can’t imagine 16 year old girls are dying to know the hardships of working backstage at fashion shows as we’ve seen it for the past 3 years on The Hills, not to mention the countless other fashion shows and channels. The guys in this show are bland at best. No Brody Jennar’s, Justin Bobby’s, or Spencer Pratt’s to hate or love as instead we’re left with whiny emo kids fighting over camera time. The locales in NYC are about as good as LA, and MTV will surely get these kids into the hottest spots in town.
This reality show provides teens a fake idea of what young adult life is about. It shows a great city with personalities and not the other way around. Teens can be attracted to it because of the magical environment that it creates. Similar to Gossip Girl in a sense that it takes them to an unreal world. WHat we need to worry about is that if viewers expect this life there is no doubt that we will find a lot of frustraded young girls.

Papparazzi
The term paparazzi means freelance photographers who sell photographs of celebrities to the media, especially ones who pursue celebrities and attempt to obtain candid photographs.
Do we need stronger laws to protect people from paparazzis? That is the question that is being asked by many experts to deal with the issue of privacy. The California civil code states that A person is liable for physical invasion of privacy
when the defendant knowingly enters onto the land of another person
without permission or otherwise committed a trespass in order to
physically invade the privacy of the plaintiff with the intent to
capture any type of visual image, sound recording, or other physical
impression of the plaintiff engaging in a personal or familial
activity and the physical invasion occurs in a manner that is
offensive to a reasonable person.
(b) A person is liable for constructive invasion of privacy when
the defendant attempts to capture, in a manner that is offensive to a
reasonable person, any type of visual image, sound recording, or
other physical impression of the plaintiff engaging in a personal or
familial activity under circumstances in which the plaintiff had a
reasonable expectation of privacy, through the use of a visual or
auditory enhancing device, regardless of whether there is a physical
trespass, if this image, sound recording, or other physical
impression could not have been achieved without a trespass unless the
visual or auditory enhancing device was used.
.
The issue with public places is very complicated when celebrities or public figures are in open public places. The fact that a person is in a public place should not give anyone the right to be with cameras at a very close distance.
When it comes to personal life there should be a clear limit and the common law system leaves a door open to continuous interpretation.
In other countries celebrities and public figures go through the same problems with paparazzi. A world known case is the one that occurred in 1997 with Princess Diana in France. Dodi Al Fayed and the vehicle's driver were also killed in the collision in a tunnel under the Place de l'Alma in the centre of the city.
The princess' Mercedes car was apparently being pursued at high speed by photographers on motorbikes when it hit a pillar and smashed into a wall.
Mr Al Fayed and the chauffeur died at the scene but the princess and her bodyguard were cut from the wreckage and rushed to hospital.
The story became a movie and it clearly shows what a paparazzi is willing to do in order to take a good photograph.
Paparazzi hide everywhere and anywhere famous people are followed all day long. If we pick some form of media TMZ is a website that can keep you updated on anything celebrities do from grocery shopping to tanning salon and if we stop and think about it who is interesting in this kind of things? Apparently a lot of people are because there wouldn’t be as much magazines and media dealing with the same topics every week.
The conclusion I can make is that there should be more laws to control paparazzi. In most countries this issue is being discussed and it involves the role of the media, freedom of press and privacy laws.

What Is cool?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0vMH34vyKI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_SvwNlZsqM&feature=fvw
If we consider the dictionary definition of The pervasive term 'cool' we find that it means 'fashionable' or 'hip'. But the word cool involves a great quantity of other things. Questions can help us define what is cool like for example who writes the scripts that young people follow? Who defines what is “cool?” Who says what is acceptable? In a book I read in high school Brave New World Aldous Huxley described a world where “every one belongs to every one else. That can be our starting point. There might be no universal meaning of what is cool.
We can take fashion as an example to describe the effects that the use of the term cool causes in that particular industry. During the 1980s what was considered cool and a must have is today used for costume at parties. The same happened with the 1960s womens fashion. Talent was the prerequisite to success in the 1960s. For the first time ever in any fashion era, the young became the leaders of fashion. They led with new and radically innovative fashion styles, with little girl woman androgynous looks for women that swept away the sophisticated sweater girls of the early sixties. The picture of Twiggy in the header defines her as the epitome of a sixties baby doll woman and that style is not considered as cool at the moment.
The video clearly shows that what was cool back then is different from other decades. Fashion has changed over the years and every decade we are surprised with a new style. However the best designers in the world go back in time to find inspiration, they bring elements from other decades and mix them to put up a new collection. It is better to find different styles during time because that difference makes fashion history possible.
When it comes to the film industry most celebrities have help from a stylist. They are the responsible ones to make sure that their clients are well dressed everywhere for every event in a appropriate way. Rachel Zoe is a celebrity stylist and she has among her clients Cameron Diaz, Keira Kneightley, Molly Seems and Debra Messing among others. Zoe has to define what is cool and what isn’t. Stylist interpretations are seen everyday on magazines. Fashion stylists spend time to decide what is cool and what isn’t and that is when they make up looks for celebrities and trends are made.
When there are awards like the Golden Globes, MTV awards, The Emmys or The Oscars the nominees and all guests to those events are being photograph and the next day they are analyzed and criticized by a group of what is known as fashion experts. E entertainment Television and TV guide have an hour long post shows dedicated to discuss what each person was wearing. The analysis includes hair, make up, accessories, dress and shoes. What effect does it have?
A group of people that decide what is cool and what isn’t shouldn’t have a great effect on the industry or on celebrities but the effect is huge. The pictures are on the newspaper and magazines as an example you can see the photographs. The dos and don’t list is a classic one that we find the next day after each big Hollywood or New York event.
More than a hundred and fifty media communications representatives are present on awards. Each fashion magazine has a photographer and they have a section dedicated only for the fashion. Most people want to see celebrities styles and copy them.
The fashion industry suffers from the opinion of a few number of people who believe have earned the right to decide what is cool or not. If they decide one dress is cool and a must have then the designer will be blessed but if they consider that a design is awful or not cool enough designers names can be banned from the cool list.
What is cool in fashion terms is redefined every month on magazines, TV and people on the streets that is why the media is the main influence not only to communicate but to judge.

Teen girls reaction
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1840556,00.html
In the truth about teen girls journalist Belinda Luscombe wrote an article on time magazine deals with the issue of teen girls their attitude. The author states that girls are being too sexy these days. IN 2008 there were some episodes with teen celebrities Jamie Lynn Spears pregnant and Miley Cyrus seminaked in some photographs. Luscombe pays special attention to the way Girlhood sexiness is absorved by them trough tv shows, films. etc.
Gossip GIrl is mentioned on the article as being part of a number of shows that promote this kind of sexy attitude among young teens. She clearly specifies that girls are interested in sexual content in the media.
I personally disagree with Luscombe because there are many reasons why teenage girls are attracted to the show. Gossip girls sells a dream world to most american and foreing girls. We cant generalize on the subject but we can say that the world that they are invited to is a fantasy land of expensive clothes, limousines, fancy parties, fashion trends and dream vacations. These elements combined with a good story that brings results in tension and finally things work out somehow during the episode. These teens do not seem real to us if we see them at a glance but when we get to know the characters we can see that altough their evryday life is extravagant, they are teens.
The idea of seeing them as teens makes the show stand out and make girls imitate the characters. Serena appears to be a socialite something a lot of girls wish they could become. I believe that teen girls want to be like Serena rich, popular, beautiful. Serena does well in school and she is always in trouble for some reason or another. However we need to establish something clear and that is that these teen characters need to make fans watch the show every week. In a world were people cut words in order to save time and everyone is always in a hurry a tv show cant avoid introducing more drama in every episode. When life is less complicated for them at the show it is less fun for us.

Gossip Girl
Gossip Girl is a teen drama. It is a type of dramatic television series in which the focus is on teenage characters. The genre was relatively non-existent for the first 45 years of television; it came into prominence in the early 1990s. Previously, most series with a focus on teens had been sitcoms while teens in drama series were usually part of a larger ensemble that included adults and children. We can name My so called life, BH 90210 produced by Aaron Spelling, Felicity, Dawson's creek as well as THE OC written by Josh Schwartz.
